What
to expect when consulting an Osteopath?
On your first visit, a full medical case history
will be taken. An examination will then be carried
out (you may then be asked to remove some clothing)
and you will be asked to perform some simple movements
for assessment purposes. Additionally, areas of your
body will then be palpated to assess for tension.
Diagnosis & treatment will then be
discussed. There may be appropriate referral to
other professionals & the request for additional investigations
such as blood tests & x-rays, allowing a full
diagnosis & treatment plan.
Treatment will typically consist of soft tissue,
gentle mobilisation and manipulation techniques
to relax inflamed, irritated tissues. This enables
fresh blood to reach a damaged area so facilitating
healing. Also by working with stiff, restricted
areas of the spine or a limb overall function and
comfort will improve.
